Starter freewheel for various models
How does it actually work that the starter motor of an engine can rest again after starting. This is what the so-called "starter freewheel" is for. It is the connection between the starter motor and the crankshaft and protects the latter mechanically from the much too high speeds of a running combustion engine by "decoupling" immediately after starting. If the starter freewheel on your vehicle is defective, you can recognise this by a metallic, popping noise when pressing the starter button. However, the engine will not start. The only remedy is to renew and replace the starter freewheel, for example with a JMP starter freewheel. These are available for various vehicles.
